Quantum materials on the triangular lattice: from monolayers to van-der-Waals heterostructures

Abstract

In my talk I will start from the theoretical investigation of a quantum spin Hall insulator using the example of ?indenene?, a recently synthesized single layer of indium atoms arranged on a triangular lattice. After analyzing the real-space obstruction accounted for by the interference mechanism of its chiral orbitals, I will consider variants of the same class of models characterized by stronger and stronger electronic-correlation effects. In the second part, I will show how twisted bilayer graphene can be seen as a distinct member of such family, opening the way to a comprehensive and powerful study of its phase diagram based on dynamical mean field theory.
